In the first of our ‘Realm Hotspot talks to’, we caught up with Nick Johnson, joint Managing Partner of established Manchester law firm, Glaisyers.
Starting with a light one, what is your favourite meal and drink combination?
A crab sandwich and a glass of chilled white wine, having been for a swim to St Michaels Mount in Cornwall
Can you briefly summarise what your role at Glaisyers involves?
Besides being a litigator and running a department as joint managing partner, it is to make strategic decisions and to motivate people to success.
And why was it that you became a solicitor in the first place?
I wanted to be part of a profession that can make an impact on the lives of individuals and their businesses.
What do you love most about your job?
The variety and daily challenges.
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing the legal profession?
Too much change that is not being properly thought through taking place too quickly; it is actually compromising our professional integrity to put the client first
And to finish, what do you prefer and why, holidays at home or holidays abroad?
Holidays at home. I love the southerly tip of Cornwall, with its dramatic coastline and the warm welcome you receive.
Originally from Cheshire, Nick studied Politics at university, before joining Glaisyers in 1983 where he went on to qualify as a solicitor and ultimately become Managing Partner. A commercial litigator by trade, Nick has been a longstanding member of Glaisyers’ management team. He has also been appointed to the Panel of Deputies by the Public Guardianship Office to manage the financial affairs of those individuals who lack capacity.
