In our Career Spotlight feature, we catch up with each member of the Realm team to talk about where they came from, what their job involves and how they’ve grown since joining the business.
Next up, it’s our marketing and PR executive Katherine, who joined Realm in May 2016.
What did you do before you joined Realm?
After graduating with a degree in English, I worked as an online copywriter for a builder’s merchant in mid-Wales where I’m from. While the majority of my role involved writing for the company’s website, I also oversaw a team of writers and illustrators and handled other marketing activity on an ad hoc basis.
Why did you join Realm?
I joined Realm upon relocating to Manchester in May 2016, not long after Duane first set up the business. I could see from the beginning that Realm was different from other recruitment businesses. It was (and still is!) really exciting to be part of such a young and vibrant company that’s constantly growing.
What does your role at Realm involve?
At Realm, I primarily look after our website and online marketing activity. This involves writing blogs and other website content and putting together our newsletters for clients and candidates. I also coordinate PR for the business to help grow the Realm Recruit brand.
What has been the biggest achievement of your career so far?
I’m really proud of how I’ve helped to boost Realm’s presence both online and within Manchester’s legal recruitment industry over the last 3 years. This summer, it was lovely to find out that I was shortlisted for the Marketing and PR professional award at this year’s Manchester Young Talent Awards, alongside some really talented people from across the city.
How has working at Realm helped you in your career development?
Realm is a member of several networking organisations, such as pro-manchester, which regularly put on talks and events about topics that are relevant to my role. Not only do these events give me a chance to meet like-minded individuals working in similar in-house roles, but they also help me to learn about developments within marketing and PR. While our consultants receive regular training within the business, Duane is very open to me going on courses from external providers to help broaden my knowledge and expertise.
