Our litigation recruitment specialist Rebecca recently spoke with Andrew Farrell, Office Managing Partner and Head of Commercial Litigation at Prosperity Law.
Read the interview below for an insight into Prosperity’s growth plans, Andrew’s career goals and how Disney+ and Marvel kept him and his son occupied during lockdown.
If you hadn’t become a lawyer, what would have been your plan B?
I never like this question because my answer is incredibly dull. As the product of an all-boys grammar school that had a focus on nothing apart from academic achievement, and there was zero careers advice on offer either, my own limited imagination and experience of the world left me with a choice between law and accountancy! Looking back, I made a really good choice and I still love what I do.
What do the next 12 months look like for you and your team?
In a word – “growth”. We have ambitious expansion plans for our Manchester office. We have already created a Residential Property team of 8 fee-earners from scratch in the last six months and have recently expanded our Insolvency team. We have recruited a partner who will join us shortly to lead our Commercial Property team and there will be significant expansion in that area too. The plans we have agreed include the formation of a Corporate/Commercial team and the growth of our Employment and Commercial Litigation teams as well. And we are also looking at options for new office space to accommodate the larger team we are building. It’s a very exciting period ahead of us!
Is there anything career-wise you’d still like to achieve?
I’ve already been fortunate to have taken a case to the Supreme Court, which is the lawyer’s equivalent of playing tennis at Wimbledon. I’d like to return (and win next time).
What TV show are you currently bingeing?
I usually work my way through things gradually and chop and change rather than binge watching. We subscribed to the Disney+ Channel during lockdown and my son and I have worked our way through the entire series of Marvel movies. We graduated onto WandaVision, then Agent Carter and are now onto the Loki series, which is fantastic.
What’s your go-to karaoke song?
As the few people who have ever heard me sing in public will testify, it’s something I (really!) should never do again. In the parallel universe where I can sing, I’ll be going for it with most of the tracks from Definitely Maybe by Oasis.
