Exhausted, hungry and never happier to get to work, at 10.30am this morning, Duane, Chris and Joe arrived at the Realm offices having each completed a colossal commute. Altogether, the trio walked nearly 35 miles for more than 5 hours in an effort to raise funds for Forever Manchester.
After leaving his home in New Mills as the sun was rising, Duane set off on his 16 ½ mile jaunt to Altrincham. Passing through three counties (Derbyshire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester), he took in the sights of Cheadle Hulme, Hazel Grove and Wythenshawe (and stopped for a much-needed McDonalds breakfast pit-stop), before arriving at Realm HQ at around 10.30am.
Joe walked 8 miles through the Cheshire countryside from his home Lymm. Following the Bridgewater Canal and passing Dunham Massey, instead of his usual 30-minute drive to work, Joe’s commute by foot took more than 2 hours. He made excellent time and, as a result of his 6am-start, reached the Realm office not much later than usual, at half-past eight.

Chris began his journey to work in at 6 am in Bury where he caught the tram to Deansgate-Castlefield, which would be the starting point of his walk to work. After leaving the city centre at around 7.30am, he began the 8-mile walk to Altrincham. Chris walked through Old Trafford and Stretford before joining the Bridgewater Way canal and passing through Sale and Timperley before arriving into Altrincham.
After their exhausting, but certainly memorable, journeys into work, when they got to the office, the team finally got a chance to put their feet up to recover and enjoy a well-earned (second) breakfast in the form of tea and toast.

So far, Duane, Joe and Chris have raised over £270 for Forever Manchester, but this amount continues to rise. If you would like to support Realm’s Forever Manchester Week efforts, you can visit our Just Giving page here.
