If you’re an experienced Costs Draftsperson looking to join a team that values autonomy, flexibility, and quality of work, this could be the role for you.

You’ll join the growing costs department of a well-established national law firm, where you’ll handle a varied caseload of external private costs matters You’ll also support legal aid billing when needed, with full flexibility around working patterns and minimal in-office requirements.

This is a genuinely supportive and long-tenured team, with excellent retention, a hands-on manager, and an open-door approach to development. You’ll be joining at an exciting time of expansion and investment in the team.

Who we’re looking for

  • At least 3 years’ experience in costs drafting
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills, especially with Points of Dispute/Reply
  • Experience of Precedent S electronic Bills
  • Familiarity with legal aid billing
  • ACL membership
  • Proficiency with CostsMaster or similar drafting tools

What you’ll be doing

  • Managing your own caseload of external private costs files, including paying-party matters and disputes
  • Drafting Bills, Schedules, Points of Dispute, Replies and handling costs-only proceedings
  • Supporting internal teams and clients with all cost-related documentation
  • Using case management and drafting systems to maintain efficient workflow
  • Working flexibly and independently, with the option to work mostly remotely
  • Occasionally assisting with legal aid work when needed
