Private Client Head of Department

Apply now
  • Head of Private Client role with genuine autonomy and low pressure
  • Opportunity to stabilise, shape and lead a close-knit department
  • Strong salary, realistic targets and real work–life balance

This is a rare opportunity to step into a Head of Department position within a well-established, community-focused private client practice in Kidderminster.

Following a period of change, the firm is looking for a senior private client solicitor who can bring stability, confidence and leadership to the team, without corporate pressure, aggressive targets or politics. The work is already there, the clients are loyal, and the culture is genuinely people-first.

You’ll take over an active caseload, support and develop a small team, and have the autonomy to shape how the department runs day-to-day. For the right person, there is a clear pathway towards Partnership.

Who we’re looking for

  • Senior Private Client Solicitor, ideally 8+ PQE
  • Strong experience across wills, LPAs, probate and estate administration
  • Comfortable stepping into a leadership role and providing guidance to others
  • Confident working autonomously with an existing workload
  • Approachable, down-to-earth and community-minded
  • Someone who values work–life balance and team culture
  • Trusts experience helpful but not essential (Desired)

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading the private client department as Head of Department
  • Picking up and running a varied private client caseload
  • Providing confidence, technical support and structure to the team
  • Supporting and developing junior lawyers and paralegals
  • Helping rebuild the department to a stable, long-term team of four
  • Maintaining high standards of client care in a walk-in, community-focused practice
  • Contributing to local business development naturally through presence and reputation
  • Helping shape workflows and consistency without bureaucracy or pressure

Salary & Benefits

  • Very realistic targets (approx. 3× salary)
  • Clear route to Partner for the right person
  • Genuine opportunity to shape and grow the department
  • Excellent work–life balance
  • Supportive, family-friendly culture (particularly good for those with children)
  • Considering 1 day working from home once settled
  • Free parking
  • 23 days holiday + bank holidays + birthday off + Christmas shutdown
  • Private medical insurance for the Head of Department
  • Long-standing, respected local firm with strong private client demand
  • Close-knit, non-corporate environment where you are genuinely valued
