Checklist: make 2023 your best career year yet
The beginning of the year signals a fresh start, a chance to set goals and make changes. From pledging to go to the gym, cut out caffeine or give more to charity, you may have decided to make resolutions in your personal life – but have you thought about improvements you could make in your life at work?
Whether you’re craving a fresh start or are happy at your current firm, there are steps you can take to stand yourself in good stead for the next 12 months and make 2023 your best year yet.
We’ve put together a short checklist for you to work through to start 2023 on the right foot, professionally speaking.
Think about your goals
Write down three short-term and long-term career goals – for example, you may want to achieve a promotion or pay rise this year and make partner in five years’ time. Perhaps you want to reduce your stress levels in 2023. Be as specific as possible.
Evaluate your current role
Mark out of ten how well your current job is helping you achieve these goals and three ways this could be improved – for example, would being open and honest with your boss about your pay expectations be beneficial; perhaps you could find a mentor; maybe a job with increased flexibility would help lower your stress levels.
Benchmark your salary
With the cost of living continuing to rise, there’s never been a more important time to ensure you are being paid fairly for what you do. You can request a copy of our latest salary guide for your practice area here.
Cultivate your personal brand
Whether you want to stay put or move firms next year, you will increase your value as an employee by being vocal about who you are and what you’re about on a professional level.
Refresh your CV
If you think you might want to move at any point in the next 12 months, you could take advantage of the extra time you’ll have over the festive break to update your CV so it is ready for any applications you might make down the line. If you aren’t sure what the most important factors are to highlight, speak to us and we’d be happy to steer you in the right direction – or even help you put one together.
