Yesterday was a quiet one on the fundraising front, but Day 4 has been much more successful, with Duane selling another 5 tombola tickets. This evening, we’ll be battling it out against other local businesses in The Big Forever Manchester Quiz of the Year.
On Friday, in the week’s main event, Duane, Chris and Joe will be taking on the commute of their lives as they walk to work to support the charity.
For those of us who normally commute by foot, walking to work might not sound like much of a challenge. However, the trio will not be leisurely strolling into the office on Friday. In the name of charity, they will be leaving their cars at home and giving the train a miss. Collectively they will be walking over 30 miles for more than 10 hours before beginning their working day.
Duane will be setting off at the crack of dawn before tackling the 16.5 mile trek from New Mills. Throughout the course of his five and a half hour commute, he will be passing through three counties (Derbyshire, Greater Manchester and Cheshire), before arriving at the office in Altrincham at around 11am.
Joe’s route will take him through the leafy Cheshire countryside from his home Lymm. He’ll pass through the village of Dunham Massey and cross the Bridgewater Canal on the way into Altrincham. Joe is planning on reaching the office at around 8.30am after his 2 hour commute.
Chris will be getting the tram from Bury to Deansgate Locks before walking 8 miles from the city centre. His route will see him walk through Old Trafford before joining The Bridgewater Way at Stretford. He’ll then walk along the canal through Sale and Brooklands and into Altrincham town centre.
When they finally get into the office after their gruelling commutes, they will be able to enjoy toast and cakes made by the rest of the Realm team in aid of Forever Manchester.
You can sponsor the trio by visiting our Just Giving page. The money we raise this week for Forever Manchester will be used to support community projects across Greater Manchester.
The running totals for the Realm team so far this week are as follows:
