A well-established, Legal 500-ranked law firm is looking for an experienced Costs Draftsperson to join its expanding costs team. With strong national recognition and a culture centred around autonomy and trust, this firm offers an exceptional opportunity for an experienced costs professional looking for stability, flexibility, and the chance to shape their own role.
You’ll manage a diverse caseload of paying-party costs matters and support the team with legal aid work. This is a key hire in a growing department—offering a great balance of independence, collaborative support, and room to progress.
Who we’re looking for
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in costs drafting
- Strong drafting ability, particularly with Precedent S electronic bills, PoDs, and Part 8 proceedings
- Able to handle private costs and ideally legal aid billing (Claim 1/1A, LSC)
- Experience using CostsMaster or similar tools is desirable
- Proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable working remotely
- A team player who values a friendly and down-to-earth culture
Key responsibilities
- Draft Bills and Schedules of Costs across a variety of external and internal matters
- Prepare Points of Dispute, Points of Reply, and conduct costs-only proceedings
- Provide advice to internal and external clients on costs law
- Use case management systems and costs drafting software
- Work flexibly around personal commitments, meeting deadlines with autonomy
Salary & benefits
- 2 days in-office per month (Wigan or Manchester), or more if preferred
- Flexi-time around core hours (10am–4pm)
