Court of Protection Lawyer
- Court of Protection Solicitor role handling complex property & finance work
- No traditional billing targets, quality, accuracy and outcomes matter
- Highly specialist boutique team working on panel-level CoP matters
This is a rare opportunity to join one of the most specialist Court of Protection teams in the region, working on cases that many firms simply don’t have the capability or authority to handle.
You’ll be stepping into a mid-level role within a boutique practice that acts on high-impact deputyship, contentious CoP, financial abuse and recovery matters. The work is detailed, technical and investigative, requiring strong judgement, resilience and precision rather than volume-driven billing.
This role suits someone who enjoys complex problem-solving, financial analysis and working closely with vulnerable clients and their families, and who wants to be developed properly, in a calm and highly collaborative environment.
Who we’re looking for
- Solicitor with Court of Protection experience
- Comfortable handling property & finance CoP matters
- Strong financial awareness and Excel-based analysis skills
- Open-minded and willing to learn a specialist, risk-led way of working
- Calm, resilient and not easily overwhelmed
- Experience working with vulnerable clients (Desired)
- Exposure to litigation or contentious probate (Desired)
What you’ll be doing
- Managing a mixed Court of Protection caseload at Grade B/C level
- Handling property & finance deputyship matters
- Preparing deputyship applications, statutory wills and court reports
- Conducting financial assessments and care-fee analysis (Excel-heavy)
- Supporting contentious CoP disputes and financial abuse investigations
- Assisting with recoveries, mismanagement and safeguarding issues
- Drafting expert-style reports for court and OPG scrutiny
- Working closely with senior specialists while supporting junior team members
Salary & Benefits
- Highly competitive salary
- No billing or chargeable hours targets
- Work on some of the most complex Court of Protection matters in the country
- Exposure to panel-level deputyship work without needing to be a panel deputy
- Opportunity to contribute to expert witness reports and advisory work
- Clear internal pathway from mid-level to senior specialist, based on capability rather than PQE
- Office-based role with flexibility where needed
- Calm, boutique environment with learning delivered in-room alongside senior specialists
- High-impact work where quality, judgement and outcomes matter more than volume
- Long-term progression in a team trusted by the courts and OPG
- Work that blends law, investigation and social-care decision-making
