While much of the claimant market has slowed down, this Manchester team continues to expand at pace. Following another year of significant growth, the department is adding further headcount as work continues to increase across Employers’ Liability litigation.
The role offers the chance to handle a predominantly litigated EL caseload with far more variety and technical challenge than many volume environments. The files are largely non-portal, sourced through strong-quality channels rather than bulk CMC work, giving fee earners the opportunity to develop stronger litigation skills and achieve better outcomes for clients.
From the outset, you’ll run your own caseload of pre- and post-issue EL matters, progressing claims confidently through litigation, negotiation and, where required, trial. The team is particularly interested in people with tenacity — lawyers who genuinely enjoy pushing cases forward rather than settling for the easiest route.

Who we’re looking for
- 1 year+ PQE / CILEX / qualified by experience (E)
- Proven experience handling litigated EL claims (E)
- Strong understanding of CPR and litigation procedure (E)
- Experience progressing files from inception through to trial/disposal hearing (E)
- Experience handling both portal and non-portal claims (E)
- Strong billing track record (E)
- Tenacious and commercially driven approach (E)
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills (E)
- Experience using Proclaim case management system (D)
- Motivated by progression and performance-based earnings (E)
What you’ll be doing
- Managing a caseload of Employers’ Liability claims from cradle to grave
- Conducting legal research and advising clients throughout litigation
- Drafting pleadings, witness statements and legal documents
- Negotiating settlements and representing clients at hearings where required
- Progressing litigated claims efficiently to maximise client outcomes
- Managing risk, compliance and procedural deadlines
- Working within a fast-paced, target-driven environment
- Collaborating with colleagues to achieve the best possible results for clients
Salary & Benefits
- £30,000–£55,000 DOE
