Private Family Solicitor

Apply now
  • Join a long-established, independent law firm with a loyal client base and a strong pipeline of private family work
  • Take ownership of a quality caseload of divorce, financial remedy and private children matters from day one
  • Enjoy genuine work-life balance, quarterly bonuses and a supportive culture where people come before billable hours

If you’re looking for a private family role where you’ll be trusted to get on with the job, supported when you need it and genuinely appreciated for what you do, this could be exactly what you’re looking for.

This opportunity has arisen as part of a planned succession within a well-established Family team, giving you the chance to inherit an existing caseload rather than build one from scratch. You’ll be the team’s main fee earner, supported by an experienced legal assistant and surrounded by colleagues across Private Client, Probate and Conveyancing who generate a steady stream of internal referrals.

The firm has been serving the local community for more than 100 years and has successfully combined its longstanding reputation with a more modern, flexible way of working. Decisions are made quickly, there’s very little bureaucracy, and people are trusted to do their jobs without unnecessary micromanagement.

Perhaps the biggest difference, though, is the culture.

This is a genuinely close-knit team where people know one another well, celebrate successes together and support each other through life’s challenges.

Who we’re looking for

  • Family Solicitor with 2+ years’ PQE (NQs with strong private family experience will also be considered)
  • Able to manage a private family caseload with minimal supervision
  • Experience advising on divorce, financial remedy and private children matters
  • Confident handling advocacy and attending court
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and client care skills
  • Resolution membership or Collaborative Lawyer accreditation (desirable)
  • Friendly, approachable and down-to-earth
  • Someone who enjoys being part of a team and values long-term relationships with clients and colleagues

What you’ll be doing

  • You’ll manage a varied caseload of privately funded family work, including:
  • Divorce and separation
  • Financial remedy matters
  • Private children disputes
  • Pre- and post-nuptial agreements
  • Negotiation, mediation support and advocacy where appropriate

Salary & benefits

  • Quarterly bonus scheme worth up to 10% of salary
  • 23 days’ holiday plus bank holidays
  • Christmas closure without using annual leave
  • Hybrid working considered for the right person
  • Informal, trust-based flexibility around family and personal commitments
  • Annual salary reviews
  • Supportive wellbeing culture with private medical benefits under consideration

This is an ideal opportunity for a Family Solicitor who enjoys quality client work but wants to leave behind the pressure, bureaucracy and long-hours culture that often comes with larger firms. You’ll join a business where your contribution is recognised, your work-life balance is respected and your career can continue to develop in a supportive, people-first environment.
