This month, we caught up with Paula, our specialist in the recruitment of family lawyers and the newest member of Realm Recruit. Paula told us all about her life as a legal recruiter, her holiday plans and her love of Harry Potter.
You’ve been at Realm for just over 6 months now, how are you finding life as a legal recruiter?
It’s certainly busier than I thought it would be! Every day I speak to someone different; it’s quite refreshing to be able to chat with a wide range of people.
We do a lot of networking at Realm, and only recently I got to meet Lady Hale at one of the Women in the Law UK events, she’s an extraordinary woman. Life is busy!
You specialise in recruiting Family Solicitors – what kind of trends are you seeing in the market?
Collaborative lawyers are becoming increasingly popular. There is also the big campaign for no-fault divorce to be introduced, something a lot of family solicitors strongly support. More generally, partly because of International Women’s Day, March is the time of the year when you can really feel the strong female presence in the legal sector.
How do you unwind after a busy day at the office?
I am a typical extrovert, so I would definitely spend time with my friends. I love cooking so I usually invite them over for some pasta and wine.
What are you reading at the moment?
I tend to read a couple of books at once, I’m all over the place! Right now it is Eva Schloss’ memoir. She was Anne Frank’s step-sister and writes about her experiences during the war, it’s a very humbling read. On a lighter note, I’m re-reading the seventh Harry Potter, I cannot get enough of it (Even at 22)!
Do you prefer to dress up or dress down?
I’ve always liked dressing up and I absolutely love heels. Dressing down is for lazy days in.
Where’s your favourite place to eat and drink in Manchester?
Mackie Mayor is probably the best place for mussels and people watching. However, The Oast House is the place to be in the summer (make sure you try the bacon beer).
Any holidays planned for this year?
I’m going to Kefalonia in July. I’ve never been to Greece so I’m really excited to smash some plates and eat an endless supply of hummus!
