In this edition of Realm Talks To… Associate Consultant Lucy spoke to Katarzyna Zatorski, Head of Family at Truth Legal. During their conversation, Katarzyna gave us an insight into her morning routine, what she looks for in a lawyer when recruiting for her team and who she would invite to her dream dinner party.
How do you usually start your working day?
Definitely with a cup of coffee! Then I usually check my diary and my task list to see what needs to be prioritised. However, family proceedings are very unpredictable and I often deal with urgent applications and unexpected hearings which can cause a bit of chaos to a previously planned diary.
What’s been the proudest moment of your career so far?
I think setting up and running my own department is a pretty big achievement for me. I am very proud with everything I have managed to do so far and I am very excited what the future brings. I am also very proud that I am able to help the Polish community through my work. Family proceedings can be very daunting and it must be even harder for people whose first language is not English.
When it comes to recruiting for your team, what do you look for in a lawyer?
Dedication and a ‘can do attitude’.
Do you have a New Year’s resolution for 2022?
Apart from the usual: eat healthier, exercise more and spend less money? I would like to be more assertive. I am trying to learn that ‘NO’ is a full sentence. Workwise, I hope to double my department’s workforce.
Do you have a favourite podcast?
I don’t. I prefer to read a book rather than listen to a podcast. Recently, in between of ‘Dear Zoo’ and ‘That’s not my…’ I have been reading Michelle Obama’s biography ‘Becoming’.
Do you prefer a night in or a night out?
Definitely a night in!
Which 3 people would you invite to your dream dinner party?
If fictitious characters then, as a Marvel Cinematic University fan, Thor, Captain America and Scarlett Witch. I think a dinner party with a God of Thunder, Super-Soldier and a Witch would be quite fun!
If real people then Roger Federer as I am a huge tennis fan. Beyonce because she is so talented and Tommy Lee Jones because I think he is a great actor and I really like Fugitive and U.S. Marshalls!
