In our latest edition of Realm Talks To…, we caught up with Louise Berry, Director of Veta Law.
Louise gives us an insight into why she decided to become a lawyer, the biggest obstacles she’s overcome in her career and her favourite thing about her job.
Why did you decide to become a private client lawyer?
I really enjoy helping people to solve their problems. In our specialist field of wills, trusts, lasting powers of attorney, probate and inheritance tax planning such problems relate to personal wealth and helping clients to achieve peace of mind for themselves and their families.
When I was a lot younger, I also fancied the pin-stripes and power-dressing…too much time spent watching LA Law and Ally McBeal I think!
What do the next 12 months look like for you and your team?
As we slowly come out of the 3rd national lockdown, I hope that the next 12 months will see an easing in restrictions so we can meet up with our fantastic clients and contacts face to face again. We will continue to strive to be the best private client legal practice with excellent technical expertise accompanied with the most friendly, efficient and flexible services for our clients. Further expansion plans are also on the cards…
What’s the best thing about your job?
That is easy...the people I work with! Our amazing team at Veta Law, our clients and contacts many of whom I have worked with for decades and to whom I am hugely grateful.
What’s the biggest obstacle you’ve had to overcome in your career so far?
Helping clients to solve complex family trust and estate planning problems, where inevitably sensitive family dynamics and financial factors need to be carefully balanced and considered.
Who do you turn to for advice at work?
There are such a lot of people I could mention here…….but especially my co-director Lauren Killilea who I have worked with for many years.
What do you like to do away from the office?
Running, cycling, yoga, playing netball and family time.
Where’s your favourite place to eat out?
Following lockdown, I am grateful to eat out almost anywhere that is open to avoid home cooking and washing-up.
What’s the last film you saw and what did you think of it?
An Officer and A Gentleman...what an absolute classic!
Which three people would you invite to your dream dinner party?
Michelle Obama, Peter Kay and Beyonce.
What advice would you give to your teenage self?
Go for it!!

Louise qualified as a solicitor in 2003 specialising in complex wills, inheritance tax planning, trusts and probate.
In 2016, she co-founded the private client boutique Veta Law.
Louise has acted as a professional Executor, Trustee, Attorney and Deputy in numerous cases over the years and has acquired a large amount of technical knowledge and experience.
