In this edition of Realm Talks To… personal injury recruitment specialist, Joseph, spoke to Petal Peters, Recruitment Manager at Express Solicitors. During their conversation, Petal provided an insight into her time working in healthcare, what she looks for when recruiting lawyers and the vast difference between her Christmas routine and her daily routine.
How do you usually start your working day?
With a gym session or a run. I have had the same routine for over 20 years. Sad but true. I am really pleased that I didn’t have to answer this question over the Christmas break, or you would have got a very different answer. Most days it was Lindor Balls or peppermint creams.
What’s been the proudest moment of your career so far?
Prior to joining Express Solicitors, I spent nearly six years in a healthcare operations role, where I supported the NHS and care homes with temporary staffing. This was challenging during the recent pandemic but incredibly rewarding. That said, I am positive I have made the right decision to join Express, it is such a lovely friendly place to work.
When it comes to recruiting for your team, what do you look for in a lawyer?
For Express, emotional intelligence and customer care is incredibly important. Our clients and their welfare are at the heart of everything we do. Of course, we want our fee earners to be technically excellent and we provide significant training to develop our lawyers into personal injury experts. However, being able to support and empathise with our clients, through what can be life challenging events, is what makes Express Solicitors different. We are passionate about helping injured people, and we look for this same enthusiasm and ambition in our lawyers.
Do you have a New Year’s resolution for 2022?
I have given up chocolate. So far, I have managed to resist. I think the real test will be Easter.
Do you have a favourite podcast?
I don’t listen to podcasts anymore as I no longer travel for work. Music-wise I listen to anything with a good beat that I can work out to.
Do you prefer a night in or a night out?
Definitely a night in with nice food. Nights out also have to involve nice food.
Which 3 people would you invite to your dream dinner party?
Partner, Mum and nieces/nephews. My favourite people.
