Our recent research revealed that a third of lawyers who are happy or disengaged at work are not actively looking for other opportunities. Are you one of them?
As we edge closer towards the festive period, for most people, looking for a new role is probably not at the top of their list of priorities. However, if you’re considering a job move in 2023, there are some very good reasons why now’s the ideal time to start exploring the market:
You’ll beat the January rush
Approximately one-fifth of us have a new year’s resolution around changing jobs and consequently, in January, the job market is tougher and more competitive than ever. Right now, however, fewer people tend to be interested in looking for a new opportunity, so there’s less competition. Plus, we know that value is driven by supply/demand, so it’s likely you’ll be able to negotiate a better salary while supply is lower.
The market is buoyant
There are lots of opportunities right now, there are currently 35 family teams looking to recruit in Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire. In the last week alone, I’ve been approached by 7 firms that are looking to grow.
If you wait until January to start your search, it will be the Spring before you’re settled in your new role
It’s important to consider your notice period. Nowadays, most lawyers have a notice period of 3 months (or more); the sooner you start your search, the sooner you’ll be able to make a move.
We can introduce you to a firm you’re interested in
I have relationships with family teams across the North West ranging from specialist boutiques to full-service national or international firms. If there’s a firm you’re interested in joining, I can make anonymous enquiries on your behalf and help you secure your perfect position.
Everyone’s feeling festive!
People are generally more positive around this time of year, so it’s an excellent time to approach recruiters. Interestingly, because employers are in better spirits, a higher percentage of people who interview in December get offered jobs than those who do so in the first quarter of the year, following the festive break.
Whether it is a case of applying and interviewing for a position before the Christmas holiday or just putting feelers out to make sure that you’re at the top of the pile in January, getting the ball rolling now could reduce competition and boost the chances of your application standing out.
