In this instalment of Realm Talks To…, Family Team Lead Paula caught up with Lucy Hart, Director at Sinclair Law. During their chat, Lucy explained what she is most proud of in her career, what she looks for in a family lawyer when recruiting for her team and favourite podcast, The Scummy Mummies. You can read the full interview below.
How do you usually start your working day?
For me organisation is key so I plan my day before I start it by reviewing and prioritising my ‘to do list’. When working from home I do this whilst enjoying the outdoors walking my dog. If I’m in the office I like to plan my day over a cup of tea with colleagues. Either way, it sets me up for the day and I feel energised and focussed.
What’s been the proudest moment of your career so far?
I’ve previously worked at large city practices which brought many different challenges, but the proudest moment of my career so far is becoming a Director at Sinclair Law Solicitors. Sandra Sinclair is an amazing mentor for me, and being in the position I am in now has given me the opportunity to bring on new young members of staff and expand the team. Seeing the team grow and develop whilst also helping our clients through a really difficult time in their lives is incredibly rewarding.
When it comes to recruiting for your team, what do you look for in a lawyer?
A good lawyer has to have so many different qualities, especially a good family lawyer. They need to be compassionate yet tenacious and have a really strong work ethic as family law is not an easy area to work in. Technical knowledge is key, but all of our team members need to be just that, members of our team, and understand that we are all working together to provide a high level of service to our clients when they are relying on us the most.
Do you have a favourite podcast?
I’m not sure if I am supposed to say the Family Law Week podcast, but if I’m being honest, it’s The Scummy Mummies. I recently read their book, “A Celebration of Parenting Failures, Hilarious Confessions, Fish Fingers and Wine” which pretty much sums up my home life.
Do you prefer a night in or a night out?
Tough question, at this point I’d have to say a night out given we have been deprived of a social life for so long.
Which three people would you invite to your dream dinner party?
Another tough one, it would completely depend on my mood but if I can only pick three, I’d say my wonderful sister Emily, Dave Grohl and someone funny like Diane Morgan.
