In our latest edition of Realm Talks To…, we caught up with Matthew Trusch, the Managing Partner of Aequitas Legal.
In the interview, Matthew explains who he turns to for advice, what the next 12 months look like at Aequitas, and who he’d invite to his dream dinner party.
Why did you decide to become a lawyer?
Quite simply, I like helping people and I like to see justice take its course.
What do the next 12 months look like for you and your team?
Positive. As we ease our way out of the government restrictions, I have every confidence we will hit our annual targets. From the perspective of our working environment, COVID has also impacted the way in which we will continue to work with fee-earning staff given the option of working from home twice a week.
What is the best thing about your job?
We strongly believe in supporting our employees’ growth and career development so I love it when I see our staff progressing up the ladder with us.
What is the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome in your career so far?
Having hopefully turned a corner from the impact of COVID-19, managing the practice through the pandemic has been a monumental challenge.
Who do you turn to for advice at work?
Usually, the Senior Partner, Such Amin, who has always been a mentor to me!
What do you like to do away from the office?
Going to Old Trafford when government restrictions allow! For the last few months, most of my free time has been spent at the park with my son!
Where is your favourite place to eat out?
For special occasions, I like Australasia.
What is the last book you read/film you saw and what did you think of it?
I have watched a fair few films during lockdown although I wouldn’t say any have been particularly memorable.
Which 3 people would you invite to your dream dinner party?
Alex Ferguson (I’m a big Utd fan), Nelson Mandela (if he was still alive) and Peter Kay (to ensure its fun)!
What advice would you give to your teenage self?
Don’t overthink or worry about what the future holds, just do your best and have no regrets, that’s all you can ask of yourself.
