In this edition of Realm Talks To…our private client specialist Kelly spoke to Tasnim Khalid, Managing Director of Private Client Solicitors. During their conversation, Tasnim gave an insight into her post-lockdown plans, shared with us her favourite book and explained what advice she would give to someone at the start of their legal career.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the law?
My advice is to always ‘be your authentic self’ and don’t just settle for “any legal job”. It is important to really think about the type of firm you would like to work for and/or what area of law interests you. You are more likely to excel in a place you feel comfortable, doing a legal job you enjoy. Staying focused because grit and perseverance WILL land you your dream job.
What would you say has been your greatest achievement?
Firstly, my two long awaited IVF babies.
Secondly, setting up my own law firm whilst 9-months pregnant and obtaining SRA approval within 3 weeks. I took a huge leap of faith and it has paid off for me.
What’s your go-to work from home snack?
A chocolate hob-nob! My post-partum body is 2 stones overweight but I can’t help myself! They’re so moreish.
What’s your favourite book?
I wouldn’t say I have a favourite but I do love reading. In particular, I love reading autobiographies about inspirational women and I really enjoyed Michelle Obama’s ‘Becoming’.
What are you most looking forward to doing now that lockdown is lifting?
Going on holiday abroad with my two little ones, without any restrictions. I haven’t been abroad for two years and can’t wait until we can travel again. I fully appreciate that this is a #firstworldproblem.
