Clinical Negligence Solicitor

Apply now
  • Inherit an established, good-quality caseload with fewer than 10 litigated matters
  • Close-knit specialist team with strong paralegal, secretarial and administrative support
  • Genuine progression in a firm with a track record of promoting from within

Are you a Clinical Negligence Solicitor looking for greater autonomy, a supportive team and a role where the focus remains on achieving the best outcome for your clients rather than simply chasing targets?

This established Greater Manchester firm is looking for a Clinical Negligence Solicitor to join its experienced team in Oldham. You’ll inherit an existing caseload of approximately 40–60 matters, giving you quality work and responsibility from the outset.

The caseload is predominantly pre-litigation, with fewer than 10 matters currently litigated, and covers claims of varying complexity. You’ll manage cases from inception through to settlement or trial while also joining the team’s rota for new enquiries and instructions.

You’ll work within a well-established department alongside senior lawyers, a trainee and paralegal, with dedicated administrative, secretarial and dictation support. The culture is close-knit and collaborative, while still giving experienced lawyers plenty of autonomy.

Who we’re looking for

  • Qualified Solicitor, ideally 1–3 years’ PQE, or CILEX (D)
  • Clinical negligence caseload experience (E)
  • Ability to manage matters independently from inception to settlement or trial (E)
  • Strong knowledge of clinical negligence law and procedure (E)
  • Excellent client care and communication skills (E)
  • Strong organisation and attention to detail (E)
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively (E)

What you’ll be doing

  • Inheriting approximately 40–60 existing cases
  • Managing clinical negligence claims independently
  • Running matters from inception to conclusion
  • Handling predominantly pre-litigation work
  • Progressing litigated matters where required
  • Taking new enquiries and instructions
  • Advising and supporting clients throughout their claims
  • Working closely with the Head of Department
  • Utilising paralegal and secretarial support

Salary & Benefits

  • £40,000–£45,000 depending on experience, with potential flexibility
  • Hybrid working with 2 days from home once established
  • Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm
  • 22 days’ holiday plus bank holidays
  • Additional birthday leave when your birthday falls on a weekday
  • Discretionary full Christmas closure without using additional annual leave
  • Standard pension
  • Discounted nearby parking
  • Strong administrative and secretarial support
  • High levels of autonomy
  • Supportive, close-knit working environment
  • Genuine opportunities for internal progression

You may initially need to be office-based while you settle into the caseload and team, before moving to the usual hybrid arrangement.

This is a firm where progression isn’t just talked about. Senior lawyers have built their careers internally from junior positions through to departmental and equity leadership. For someone who wants quality Clinical Negligence work, autonomy and long-term career prospects without an overly target-driven culture, this could be an excellent next move.
